Research

Scientists funded by the Texas Pierce's Disease Research and Education Program are studying the causal organism of the disease, Xylella fastidiosa, the dynamics of disease spread, supplemental hosts of the pathogen and vectors, known and potential insect vectors, vector-host relationships, vineyard ecosystem composition, and related topics as outlined in program planning documentPDF document. The results from these studies will ultimately lead to effective management options for commercial vineyards in Texas and elsewhere.

The Program was initiated in 2003 and is expected to be a multiyear project. Scientists will provide periodic progress reports that will enable interested parties to stay current with the research results of our program. Members of the program also deliver educational meetings to inform grape growers, wine producers, and other interested parties of programmatic progress in the program. Extension personnel will continue to provide site visits and consultations to advise commercial grape growers on PD management options.

This website serves as informational source to the public in providing information on programmatic progress in as a resource on Pierce's Disease related research projects elsewhere and management recommendations for commercial vineyards. These resources include Extension publications and links to other PD research and educational websites.
